At The Reading Corner, we aim to bring literature to disadvantaged communities while championing diversity and inclusivity in the publishing industry.

The Reading Corner was founded on the belief that literature can change the world. 1 in 8 of the nation’s most disadvantaged children say they don’t have a book of their own at home, according to the National Literacy Trust.
Literacy not only enriches an individual’s life, but it creates opportunities for people to develop skills that will help them provide for themselves and their families. The links between poverty and low literacy in the UK are profoundly strong and intergenerational, but they are not inevitable. In this country, the link between social mobility and socioeconomic status is more profound than in most other developed countries. Despite several government strategies, this situation has persisted over the last 50 years, which shows that these challenges are yet to be addressed.
Furthermore, a third of UK children do not see themselves reflected in books, with an even worse picture among poorer and minority ethnic readers.
